In most cases, interruptions in IT applications or services are localized to a specific building or set of hardware. In this type of incident, most units can report to the Location IT Recovery Lead (LITRL) via email and handle the recovery according to each unit’s recovery workbook. Location IT Recovery Lead can be the resource for campus coordination if units need help.
In the case of location (campus-wide) IT service interruption or a crisis event, the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) or UCI Crisis Core team, as defined in the UCI Emergency Operations plan, can activate the IS-12 Location IT Recovery plan and request that the Location IT Recovery Lead coordinate the IT Recovery Effort and communication.
Communication
Communication during a crisis is essential. When the Location IT Recovery is activated, the LITRL will communicate details about the situation and instructions via email, text, and Zoom bridge Unit IT Recovery Leads. (Unit IT Recovery Leads are considered Location IT Recovery Team)
The Location IT Recovery Lead will open a Zoom bridge for real-time communication. Each Unit IT Recovery Lead can report their IT situation in Zoom Bridge or email the status to is-12@uci.edu.
The Location IT Recovery Lead will update the campus Crisis Core team as needed.
IT Recovery
Each Unit IT Recovery Lead will initiate the recovery of IT applications and services using the IS-12 Recovery Workbook, starting with those applications that require recovery in the shortest timeframe (Recovery Level 5, followed by 4, and then 3). The Unit IT Recovery Lead will update the Location IT Recovery Lead on the recovery status via the SharePoint Portal.
The IS-12 site contains a list of applications to be recovered and their corresponding Workbooks, which the Location IT Recovery Lead will utilize to monitor the overall status.
